Danglas employs 7 drug surrenderees

DANGLAS, Abra -- There’s hope after drugs.

Seven of the drug surrenderees last year are now employed by the local government unit (LGU).

Mayor Florence Denise Bernos-Bragas shared the seven are hired as administrative aides and under the direct supervision of the Municipal Police Office to sustain their rehabilitation.

Danglas was the first municipal local government to adopt a Community Rehabilitation Program for surrenderees in support to the anti-drug campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Bragas reported the surrenderees who had already undergone the initial and follow-up drug tests last year continue to undergo random drug testing to ensure they are no longer into illegal drugs and substances.

The surrenderees shared it is their spiritual journey that keeps their determination towards their continued personal and social transformation to be able to cope with mainstream society.

The surrenderees expressed gratefulness to Mayor Poyee as they fondly call her, who had not given up on them up to the present as they strive to help themselves in their rehabilitation.

Her being a medical doctor and the legal assistance of her husband, Atty. Russel Bragas, is a great advantage in bringing about a holistic scheme of rehabilitation for the drug surrenderees in her municipality. (Maria Teresa Beñas/PIA – CAR)
