SECURITY preparations for Holy Week are already in place in Davao City, authorities said.

Davao City police spokesperson Senior Inspector Milgrace Driz said police in the city are on full alert during the duration of Holy Week, which by tradition begins on Palm Sunday.

About 2,000 police officers will be deployed in crowd-heavy areas like churches and terminals.

"Kahit tapos na ang Araw ng Dabaw nasa full alert status pa rin tayo hanggang sa matapos itong Holy Week," Driz said.

Task Force Davao commander Colonel Macairog Alberto said the group will make continue its parallel preparations with the police for Holy Week.

Alberto said police and military checkpoints will be set up in and around Davao City, while the task force will guard Davao coastal areas.

He added that the volume of visitors arriving in Davao is expected to dramatically rise as Holy Week approaches.
