DCWD water testing laboratory retains excellence

THE Microbiological Testing Laboratory of Davao City Water District has once again aced the Proficiency Testing Scheme as it garnered an excellent performance rating for CY 2016.

This exemplary rating was also obtained by the laboratory in the national proficiency tests in 2009, 2010-2011, 2012, and 2015.

The Proficiency Test (PT) is mandated by the Department of Health for renewal of all water testing laboratories nationwide. It is conducted by the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) in coordination with the Health Facilities and Service Regulatory Bureau.

In the actual testing, the NRL provided three unknown PT sample packets containing viable microorganisms traceable to reference cultures verified by the NRL. These samples were then analyzed by a DCWD medical technologist using normal laboratory conditions and the responses were perfect, thus the excellent rating. DCWD was conferred with the Certificate of Proficiency on March 20, 2017.

Garnering the excellent rating in the proficiency test signifies DCWD’s strive and capability to provide and ensure customers of safe and quality water.

DCWD general manager Engineer Edwin Regalado commended the Water Quality Division under the Production Department during the employees’ convocation program on November 3, which was also DCWD’s 44th Anniversary. The Certificate of Proficiency was also presented before the employees. (PR)
