Dengue claims lives in Cotabato

DENGUE claimed four lives while thousands of others were brought to the hospital in Cotabato.

Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (Pesu) Chief Dr. Hansel Amoguis said at least 2,000 residents in North Cotabato, from the municipalities of Pigkawayan, Banisilan, Libungan and Arakan, were found positive of dengue. Four of the patients have died while undergoing treatment.

With incident, Pesu has ordered the municipal health officer to launch an anti-dengue campaign to prevent the further spread of the disease.

According to Cotabato Governor Emmylou Mendoza, she has already ordered the Provincial Health Office to help stop the spread of the disease.

The Provincial Board of Cotabato, led by Vice Governor Gregorio Ipong will also tackle the release of calamity funds for the victims in the next session.

Mendoza, Cotabato first district Representative Jesus Sacdalan, and Cotabato second district Representative Nancy Catamco have joined hands to assist the victims and to help stop the spread of dengue to neighboring provinces. (Edgardo Fuerzas)
