DepEd-Cordillera gets P8.7-B budget

SOME P8.7 billion was appropriated by the Department of Education for the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

DepEd Chief of Finance division Attorney Sebastian Tayaban reported the region’s budget increased by 24 percent or additional two billion in the region.

Tayaban added bulk of the budget will be appropriated for the increase of salaries of teachers which comprise 91 percent while the remaining nine percent procured for the maintenance, expenses, and capital outlay.

"CAR should be given more budget unfortunately based on the number of population and people, however, the budget still depend on the number of enrollees," said Tayaban.

DepEd regional director May Eclar said they are set to focus on the delivery of programs following the increase of budget this year.

"We are given a budget to make sure that our programs, projects and activities are relevant and have an outstanding performance by our teachers down to the students," Eclar said.
