THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is distributing 4,330 Ovicidal-Larvicidal (OL) traps and 109,600 OL pellets to selected public elementary and secondary schools in Zamboanga Peninsula.

DOST Regional Director Brenda Nazareth-Manzano said the use of OL traps intends to reduce the number of mosquito population in schools and communities, and subsequently lower dengue cases. The trap functions as a technology that kills the eggs and larvae of dengue mosquitoes.

She said the OL trap program is done in partnership with the Department of Health, Department of Education, and Department of the Interior and Local Government.

The traps will be distributed to 64 public schools in the region, including the cities of Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog and Isabela, among others. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
