ILLEGAL drugs, improvised deadly weapons, and other contrabands were seized inside the Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Bago City during the greyhound operation conducted by joint operatives Friday.

The items were confiscated by personnel of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-NIR.

David Mark Maramba, PDEA-NIR operations division chief, said seven sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) were recovered inside a tin can at the garden area.

The recovered drugs weighed two grams with an estimated street value of P10,000.

“This is the first time that we recovered illegal drugs after the conduct of four surprise inspections at NODJ,” Maramba said.

They also conducted greyhound operations at Metro Bacolod District Jail with Special Intensive Care Unit (MBDJ-Sica), Metro Bacolod City District Jail- Annex in Barangay Handumanan in Bacolod City, and Himamaylan City Jail.

Inspector Mar Louie Salcedo, NODJ media relations officer, confirmed the recovery of illegal drugs inside the facility along with improvised deadly weapons and cigars from the inmates’ cells.

On Wednesday, NODJ led by warden Chief Inspector Ruth Estales conducted the same operation that resulted to recovery of more contrabands like spoons, nail cutter, and digital video discs, following the stabbing incident that resulted to the injuries of two inmates.
