PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed John Agcaoili Agbayani as new commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG).

The appointment paper of Agbayani was signed on February 21.

Agbayani replaced former PCGG Commissioner Richard Roger Amurao, whose term expired on June 30, 2016.

Agbayani finished his law degree from the San Beda College of Law in Manila in 1987. He was ranked 18th in the bar examination in the same year.

He previously served as chief of staff of Social Security System commissioner Gonzalo Duque.

He had also served as technical assistant of Supreme Court Chief Justice Fred Ruiz Castro; consultant to Congress; and general counsel and consultant of various banks like BA Savings Bank, RCBC Savings Bank and Great Pacific Bank.

The PCGG, a quasi-judicial agency created to recover ill-gotten wealth accumulated during the Marcos regime, is composed of a chairperson and four commissioners. (SunStar Philippines)
