THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is very strict in implementing the nationwide gun ban, which took effect Sunday until June 9, an official said.
Comelec Regional Director Dennis Ausan said the politicians’ bodyguards and security escorts should be informed on the Comelec order.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Jesus Verzosa released the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)-PNP Joint Letter Directive and Operational Guidelines for 2010 to all regional, provincial and city police commands regarding the Nationwide Firearms Ban Information Operations Plan Hope 2010.
Police Senior Inspector Lourdes Banzuelo of the city police community relations section said that in the gun ban directive, only those authorized persons with complete prescribed uniform are allowed to carry firearms. Violators are subject for arrest.
Banzuelo said there shall be a joint Comelec, PNP, and AFP organized teams deployed to conduct intensified implementation of Oplan Sita and Oplan Bakal, especially targeting convoys of known political candidates maintaining partisan armed groups. (LCP)
