Environment office to start clean-up of Pampanga creek

MABALACAT -- The provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Enro) has vowed to work hard to clear the Sapang Matua creek of tons of garbage.

The creek passes through several barangays here and in nearby Angeles City.

Hilda Miranda, assistant provincial environment officer of Pampanga, said they will start cleaning up the creek next month.

Miranda said she has already coordinated with officials of Angeles City to support the program to preserve the waterways, which, for almost four decades now, has become a dumpsite.

The City Government, through its engineering department, vowed to support the effort of the provincial environment office, according to Miranda.

Miranda also said the Enro has allotted some P300,000 for the mobilization of heavy equipment that will be needed in hauling tons of garbage from the creek.

Balibago Rodelio “Tony” Mamac said he will support the program of the province.

He said his office had already implemented several projects to rehabilitate the creek.

Mamac asked Miranda to initiate a meeting for an effective implementation of the clearing project. He has recommended the fencing of the creeks lateral portion to prevent scavengers from dumping waste.

Scores of families from Barangays Balibago in Angles City; and Duquit, Dau, and Lakadula in this town work as scavengers.

Miranda said the resettlement of informal settlers is also included in the program.
