Ex-DAR exec assassinated

A RETIRED provincial officer was just walking along a street in Tagum City when a gunman riding in tandem on a motorcycle shot him dead Sunday morning.

Authorities confirmed the victim was Nicasio Aladao Lemente, 68, and a former officer of Agrarian Reform in Davao del Norte.

Police Inspector Anjanette Tirador, spokesperson of Tagum City Police Station reported that the victim, a resident of Maximo Village, Union Street, Barangay Mankilam in Tagum City, was walking alone around 8:00 a.m. when he was shot.

"Gipusil sya sa back rider pero duna tay witness nga niingon nakabalus pa ug pamusil ang biktima (He was shot by the rider but a witness said that the victim fired back at him until he was out of breath)," Tirador added. The spokesperson also said the police have already checked on nearby hospitals for a man with a gunshot wound.

At present, they could not confirm any motive for the assassination but they are investigating his transactions as a former government officer. (Jeepy P. Compio)
