A 12-year-old female "gang member" was killed while her companion was wounded after a person who belongs to a rival gang fired at them in Barangay Alang-alang, Mandaue City at 3:30 a.m. Monday, April 9.

Mandaue City police identified the fatality as Tony Recania, 12, who was hit in the left side of the head. Recania's 17-year-old colleague, John (real name withheld), was hit in his right leg.

Initial investigation conducted by the Mandaue police showed that Recania, John and other members of their gang named “Tag” were having a drinking spree in Sitio Liong when the incident happened.

Chief Inspector Mercy Villaro, Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) spokeperson, said members of “Oi Diamond”, Tag’s rival group, passed by the area.

Villaro said one of the members of Oi Diamond pulled out a gun and shot twice the Tag members hitting Recania and John. Both were brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for medical attention, but Recania eventually died.

Villaro said they already identified the suspect, but preferred not to disclose his name since police officers are still conducting manhunt operations. (FMG/SunStar Cebu)
