MANILA - The annual solar eclipse will occur on January 15, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

However, Filipinos are expected to witness a partial solar eclipse only. According to the astronomical diary of Pagasa, a partial solar eclipse will be observed in the Philippines. The maximum eclipse will be visible in the middle of Indian Ocean and will go along Central Africa and Eastern Asia.

This year's solar eclipse will be the longest in duration since 1992.

Meanwhile, stargazers can still enjoy the annual Quadrantid meteor shower that has started peaking since January 1 and will last until January 7. At least 40 Quadrantid meteors per hour are expected to peak in the sky. (Sunnex)
