AT LEAST six houses were burned in Beckel, La Trinidad, Benguet, a day after the New Year revelry, leaving close to P4 million worth of properties damaged.

The Baguio Fire Station and La Trinidad Municipal Fire Station together with some volunteer fire brigades helped control the fire within the 1,000 square meters owned by Mananes family after valley fire fighters received a call at around 7:34 in the morning of January 2.

Zharinah Mananes said the building was built sometime on 1960 and the electrical installation has not been modified ever since.

Initial investigation revealed there were 12 burned electrical wirings and obsolete porcelain split.

Mananes said she was alarmed by the thick smoke that emanated from the area, notifying other occupants and immediately joint forces to suppress the fire using pails filled with water.

The case is currently under investigation with authorities still looking for other causes of fire.

This will be the first fire recorded this year.
