(UPDATED) -- A fire razed over 70 houses and P500,000 worth of properties in Sitio Ponce, Barangay Capitol Site in Cebu City, on Tuesday evening, July 19.

Fire Officer 1 (FO1) Grace Colina said the Cebu City Fire Department received the alarm around 6:46 p.m.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Pierre Angelo Abellana said the fire originated at the house of Daisy Palaugon.

Palaugon's house was made of light materials, which made the fire to quickly spread to the neighboring houses.

"Ni admit ni naku siya nga pagsaka niya sa iyang balay kay 2 storey mani iyang balay nga nagkayu na iyang plangka," Abellana said.

The alarm reached Tasked Force Alpha, alarming fire stations within Cebu City to respond to the site.

Abellano said fire trucks had difficulty penetrating the interior portion of the area due to narrow roads.

Some affected residents are now temporarily staying at Capitol Site barangay hall.

Abellana said no casualties and injuries were reported.

As of 10:44 p.m., firefighters have yet to declare the area out of fire.

Last January 12, an apartment located few meters away from the Provincial Capitol Building was razed by a fire that damaged P500,000 worth of properties.

On April 17 at Villalon Drive, 11 houses were destroyed and 22 families were homeless after a fire hit the area. (Sunnex)
