Flores asks DPWH to monitor dike rehab

Sunnexdesk

MINALIN -- Mayor Edgardo Flores of this town on Friday requested Department of Public Works and Highways Regional (DPWH) Director Antonio Molano to monitor the implementation of projects relative to the rehabilitation of the San Fernando-Sto. Tomas-Minalin Taildike.

Flores wrote in his letter to the DPWH that in the course of their monitoring, they observed that the materials used in the restoration of the breached portion of the dike are also lahar materials sourced from the same dike.

He also said that it is "very alarming" because they are aware that the materials used in the restoration are not suitable to hold the dike specifically during the rainy season.

According to Flores, even the ground soil used before was eroded as a result of the Habagat in 2012 and 2013.

"Syempre kailangan ko talagang aksyunan yung sa taildike dahil malapit na naman ang tag-ulan. Kung hindi ako agad kikilos, mga buhay namin ang nakasalalay ditto," Flores said.
