ILIGAN CITY -- A former barangay councilor of Poblacion Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte was shot dead near his residence around 6 p.m., last Friday night, November 3.

Police Chief Inspector Malvin Loquente, chief of Kapatagan Municipal Police Station, identified the victim as Joven Alsonado, 35, a job order worker of the municipal government unit.

Loquente said Alsonado was on his way home driving a motorcycle, with his wife backriding, when he stopped to check some trouble.

"Murag nagka-problema iyang motor, mihunong para i-check," Loquente said in a phone interview with this writer.

But a lone perpetrator, also onboard a motorcycle, suddenly arrived and shot the victim point blank using a caliber .45 pistol.

The victim sustained a fatal gunshot wound under his armpit as responding policemen recovered three empty shells at the crime scene.

Authorities are still clueless on the possible motive of the killing.

"Pero active ni siya nga nagtabang sa kampanya nato against illegal drugs busa dako siya nga kawad-on," Loquente could only say.
