AT NOON Monday, November 27, security guard Erwin Valmoria Macua, 39, was busy manning the carport gate of St. Theresa’s College in Cebu City as he anxiously awaited the results of the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).

“Ambot kapasa ba kaha ko, pirte man gyud lisora ato nga exam (I don’t know if I’ll pass, it was a difficult one),” he told SunStar Cebu.

Three hours later, he was still at the carport gate when he received a call from one of the school teachers informing him that he passed, and he didn’t believe her at first.

“Pagsure ba? Gibalik-balik gyud nako ug pangutana. Lipay gyud kaayo ko. Naghope unta ko nga ma-topnotcher ko but bisag wala, dili gihapon masukod akong kalipay kay pasar man diay. Init kaayo diri sa carport, pero nakuhaan akong kaguol sa kainit pagkahibaw nako nga pasar (I asked the teacher if she was sure I passed. I’m very happy right now. I hoped I would be one of the topnotchers but even if I didn’t make it in the top 10, passing the exam was already an achievement. I even stopped worrying about the heat),” he said.

Macua said the first person he called was his wife, and he looks forward to the special meal she promised him tonight (Monday) to celebrate his feat. (SunStar Cebu)
