Gaston bags Rotary golf title

ONE of the country's best known golfers, Silay's Francis Gaston, was the overall champion of Rotary “Golf for a Cause” tournament held at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Bata Subdivision, Bacolod City Saturday.

Gaston, who has a handicap of 2, had a gross score of 33 points under the Stableford scoring system.

Winners in other divisions: Jun Golf (12 years and below), Matthew Rojas 33 points; Jun Golf (13 years and above), Vince Lohenares 41 points; Class D, Cris Gamboa (hcp 28) 42 points; Class C, Nene Tanpinco (hcp 16) 39 points; Class B, Lito Maestral (hcp 13) 39 points, and Class A, Max Javelona (hcp 7) 39 points. Best overall net score was Luigi Benedicto (hcp 24) 49 points.

Fidel Henares, president of the Rotary Club of Bacolod Marapara, said: "It was definitely one of the most enjoyable tournaments we've staged. I'd like to thank all the players, sponsors and volunteers for helping to make the event such a success.”

"Most importantly, the event raises vital funds which enables our club to continue its community programs, especially medical missions for the less fortunate in our society," he added. (PR)
