German government ties up project with Negros

GERMAN Ambassador to the Philippines Christian Ludwig Webber Lorch is in Negros Occidental for various projects, said Governor Isidro Zayco on Wednesday.

Lorch will also witness the inauguration of the GTZET Regional Office today at the Provincial Administration Center (PAC).

The ambassador was in Kabankalan City on Tuesday for the blessing and opening of the extension building and technical school of the Kabankalan Catholic Center.

The GTZ of Deutsche Gessellschaft fur Technische Zusammernarbeit (GTZ) Environment and Rural Development Programme (EnRD) is also an associate partner of the “Effective Natural Resource Management Through Inter-LGU Alliances in the Province of Negros Occidental,” a project funded by the European Commission Dialogue on Governance Strategic Facility (SF2).

The Provincial Environment Management Office (Pemo) is also the proponent of the action.

The grant contract signing for the project between the province and the European Union will be held also Thursday at the Social Hall of the Old Provincial Capitol Building.

The project is worth P26,421,509, of which 85 percent of it will be shouldered by the European Union which is P22,432,851, while 15 percent for the province at P3,988,658.

The objective of the project is to contribute to the UN Millenium Development Goals by developing sound and harmonized policies on sustainable development and management of natural resources. This means improving governance structures of Inter-LGU Alliances, developing a critical mass while advocating for the adoption of NRM friendly ordinances at the provincial and local level.

The project will be implemented to the cities of San Carlos, Escalante, Sagay, Cadiz, Victorias, Silay, Talisay, all in northern Negros Occidental and the cities of Bago, Himamaylan, Kabankalan, and Sipalay in the south, also to the municipalities of Calatrava, Toboso, Manapla, EB Magalona, Don Salvador Benedicto, Pulupandan, Valladolid, Murcia, Binalbagan, Ilog, Cauayan and Hinobaan.
