A 12-YEAR-OLD girl who would have started grade seven today died after she was reportedly hit by lightning in Barangay Gen. Climaco, Toledo City last Saturday afternoon.

Police identified the fatality as Francheska Rain Olinares Etorpe, who suffered burns in different parts of her body.

Two pigs were also hit by lightning.

PO3 Alfredo Barquin, who is assigned to investigate the incident, said the girl was possibly hit past 2 p.m.

Etorpe was rushed to Toledo City Hospital, but the attending doctor pronounced the girl dead on arrival.

Before the girl was found lifeless by a relative, Etorpe went to the pigpen to feed the piglets.

The girl was alone at that time.

Barquin, in a phone interview, was told by Etorpe’s parents and relatives that it was raining hard that time. They also heard thunder.

The girl was found around 4 p.m.

Etorpe’s uncle, who passed by the pigpen, saw the girl lying on the ground.

Barquin said he suggested to the family to allow an autopsy.

Meanwhile, Meljun Gorrea, 21, was found dead with two gunshot wounds in the head in Barangay Inoburan, Naga City last Saturday at 1 p.m.

Police found two empty shells from a .45 pistol in the crime scene. They are still investigating to determine the motive behind the incident.
