Grey, Canggat rule 1st Mankayan Marathon

FOG shrouded some sections the course, but that did not stop Koi Grey and Mary Jane Canggat from winning the Mankayan Mountain Marathon.

Koi won the men’s race with a time of 5 hours, 4 minutes, and 33 seconds, a full hour ahead of second placer Julius Bay-an.

Richard Decawan finished third.

Canggat clocked 8:03:52 to top the women’s race, edging Daisy Merca, her lone challenger, who finished with 9:12:55.

In the 21-kilometer category, Baguio City’s Arnold Galap topped the men’s division with 2:21:42, Alvin Ballogan finished second with 2:22:43 and Avile Estigoy third with 2:46:57.

Rowena Bay-an was the top women’s finisher in the 21K with 3:14:24, followed by Em Martinez and May Joyce Dulnuan.

Sixty-six runners joined the first ever off-road race in Mankayan.

The course included mountain trails, hanging bridges, even cow gates.

Mankayan Mountain Marathon is the first leg of the Mountain Man Series.
