BACOLOR -- Rotary Club of Villa de Bacolor led the feeding program and distribution of books to indigent kids and pupils of Barangay Tinajero Elementary School here, Thursday.

According to Rotary Assistant Governor Rudy Mallari, some 54 pupils were placed under the nutrition program of the group.

He said the children belong to families who have yet to completely recover from the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.

"These children badly need nutrition and we are here to start a bigger campaign and invite other Rotary Clubs and non-government organizations to look into the nutritional needs of children in far-flung barangays of the province," Mallari said.

The program's objective is identification and selection of the most underweight children.

Mallari said that aside from RCVB, other Rotary clubs in the province will also start their respective nutrition cum feeding programs in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Incoming RCVB President Val Panopio said that supplemental feeding is an intervention that has to be implemented to promote proper nutrition.

"The mothers are taught how to prepare inexpensive, good and nutritious food specifically studied and put together by professional nutritionist. The most important aspect is the community building and group transformation to make the parents of the children more positive, more hopeful and to strive to do better," Panopio said, stressing that they will also go to other schools of the town to check on the nutritional condition of school children.

He said undernourished kids tend to perform poorly in their academics and extracurricular activities.

Proper nutrition, he said, greatly help in the academic development of children. (IOF)
