POLICE have filed charges before the City Prosecutor's Office in Davao against a man arrested Sunday for violation of the Commission on Election (Comelec)-imposed gun ban and illegal possession of firearms.

Facing charges for violation of the Comelec Resolution No. 9561-A and illegal possession of firearms is Rehuel Pajarito Diauna, 45, married, of Barangay Gumalang, Baguio District, Davao City.

Diauna was charged based on the complaint filed by arresting policeman, Police Officer 2 Allen Palma Cabrero of Baguio police.

Cabrero, in an affidavit, said they received a report from bystanders in the area that an intoxicated man was brandishing a firearm at around 5 p.m.

Cabrero along with Inspector Renate Aritalia responded at the scene where they were taken by witnesses to the house of the suspect.

The responding police officers advised the suspect to come out of his house which the latter adhered to. The suspect then surrendered his homemade caliber .38 snub nose revolver with four live rounds to the police officers.

When asked by the authorities to present a Comelec-gun ban exemption and permit to carry firearms, the suspect presented neither of the documents thus, he was arrested.

Diauna is currently detained at Baguio police station while the confiscated firearm was endorsed to the Philippine National Police Crime Laborartory and will be used as evidence against him during court proceedings. (Ruji Peter S. Abat/Sun.Star Davao)
