A "HABAL-HABAL" (motorcycle-for-hire) driver was hacked in the head by a drunk man he tried to pacify around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, in Sitio Makagagahom, Barangay San Rafael, Barili.

The victim, Mariano Inot Sabanate, survived the incident, while the suspect, Rolando Casialdo, escaped.

Police said that before the hacking incident, Sabanate stopped Casialdo from verbally abusing the victim's mother.

Casialdo got mad at Sabanate's mother, whom he accused of persuading his son from leaving their house.

When the argument stopped, Sabanate left, not knowing Casialdo was trailing him. Casialdo then attacked him with a bolo.

Sabanate ran to his cousin, who brought him to the town's public hospital. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
