Hospital chief suspended

Winona Sadia, Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism

THE chief of Minglanilla District Hospital was placed under preventive suspension by Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III after a hit-and-run victim died allegedly due to the refusal of the ambulance driver to bring the patient to the hospital.

Davide said he talked to a nurse who attended to the victim and said that they relied on the order of Dr. Bella Villaganas to no longer use the ambulance.

Davide said his order is clear that district hospitals should not refuse a patient.

“The district hospital is there to save lives. Who knows that the victim will be saved had the ambulance driver did not refuse to bring him to the hospital,” he said.

Davide was informed that the hit-and-run victim was brought to the hospital by the police.

He then warned all doctors and hospital personnel against refusing a patient.
