Improvised bomb explosion kills 2 soldiers, injures 1

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Two soldiers were killed while another was wounded in an improvised bomb explosion believed to be perpetrated by the Abu Sayyaf bandits in Basilan province, a military official said.

Joint Zambasulta information officer Chester Ian Ramos said the incident took place Tuesday morning at Sitio Bohe Manicaan in the village of Sapah Bulak, Sumisip, Basilan.

Ramos said the troops were conducting security patrol when one of them accidentally tripped on a detonating cord of an improvised bomb fashioned out as landmine, triggering the explosion.

Ramos did not release the identities of the casualties but said they belong to the Army’s 64th Infantry Battalion based in the municipality of Sumisip.

He said there is a strong possibility that the Abu Sayyaf bandits are the ones behind the incident. (Sunnex)
