THE much-awaited battle for supremacy for basketball among the districts in Cebu Province—the Cebu Provice Inter-District Basketball Tournament—will officially begin at the Cordova Sports Complex at 7 p.m. today.

Provincial Board Member Arleigh Sitoy-managed Sixth District will host the Raul Alcoseba-managed First District in the opening game of the tournament, which will run until August.

Alcoseba has given the coaching duties for the First District to former PBA player Rudy Enterina.

Meanwhile, Fourth District Board Member Tining Martinez hopes to hire the services of former University of San Carlos coach Junthy Valenzuela.

Enterina, on the other hand, already formed a mean team that includes former University of the Visayas star point guard John Abad and current Southwestern University banger Bernie Bregondo to lead the star-studed team, which will be based in Talisay City.

Aside from Talisay, Enterina has Minglanilla, Naga City, San Fernando, Carcar City and Sibonga players to choose from.

The Sixth District, meanwhile, has been working hard since the formulation of the tournament.

According to the Cebu Proince Sports Commssion, Sitoy has been egging the team to train hard.

Like the First District, the Sixth District is also a talent-rich district since it has Mandaue City, Consolacion and Cordova as base of selection.

Former PBA star Elmer “Boy” Cabahug was tapped to call the shots for the Sixth District.

The tournament will resume on Friday next week after Martinez asked for a postponement of their hosting against the Third District on Sunday in Bogo City, to prepare for the Provincial Board’s out-of-town session, which is scheduled on Monday in Samboan.
