AN ALLEGED member of a kidnap-for-ransom-group (KFRG) was killed in a shootout with lawmen in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Thursday.

Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao) director, said the shootout occurred around 12 noon Wednesday, April 19, in the village of Payag, Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Beltran identified the slain KFRG member as Musa Modapil, who has standing warrant of arrest for the crime of carnapping with homicide and no bail recommended.

Beltran said the shootout occurred when Modapil opened fire upon seeing the arriving joint police and military team who were on a law enforcement operation.

He said the troops rushed Modapil to the hospital but the suspected KFRG member expired while under medical treatment.

He said the troops recovered from the slain suspect’s possession a homemade shotgun, ammunition and a medium-sized shachet of suspected shabu. (SunStar Philippines)
