Killing of DepEd employee hit

PROGRESSIVE group Karapatan-Negros condemned the killing of an employee of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental this week.

In a statement Friday, September 1, Karapatan said “the ceaseless killings clearly show the mercenary and fascist orientation of the state forces in implementing the Oplan Kapayapaan as counter-insurgency program of the Duterte regime.”

The statement said the group will continue to seek justice while they uphold and defend the people’s rights.

“Karapatan Negros condemns this brutal killing of Oscar Asildo Jr.,” the statement said.

On Wednesday, Asildo, an administrative assistant, was shot to death by two unidentified men on board a white vehicle at Barangay Poblacion.

The victim was walking towards his car beside the road when he was shot several times.

Police recovered 10 fired bullets and three slugs of .45 caliber pistol.

Karapatan said the victim was an organizer of militant group Bayan Muna.

They believed that the motive of the killing was due to his affiliation with Bayan Muna, adding that the victim was also “being associated with the CPP-NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army) supporter.”

Karapatan claimed the city police did not immediately respond after the assailants fled.
