Landslide hits Davao Sur

POLICE in Davao del Sur are now investigating the landslide that occurred at Sitio Cabalantian, Barangay Kinanga in Don Marcelino on Tuesday morning.

Heavy and continuous rains since Monday have softened the ground in the province, resulting to a landslide at around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Davao del Sur police chief Robert Caraoa told Sun.Star SuperBalita in a telephone interview that no one was reported hurt or killed nor any property damaged in the incident.

"Gikan diha sa Sitio Talagotong dapit sa seawall, wa na gyud na gipapuy-an kay delikado sa landslide. Maagian naman hinuon ang dalan kay gipadaplin na ang mga bato (No one is living in that area up to the seawall because it is really prone to landslides. The roads are passable since the rocks were cleared)," Caraoa said.

However, motorists are not safe in case a landslide occurs. Police have alerted residents living near the river in case flashfloods occur.

The Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council is also on alert since the continued rains results in flashfloods and landslides in the area. (Dondon Dinoy)
