License plates inventory to start soon

John Z. Pages

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Davao will start its inventory on the delayed license plates of vehicles for its distribution following the lifting of the Supreme Court's temporary restraining order (TRO).

LTO-Davao Director Gomer Dy said Friday, January 26, that they will start the distribution of the remaining license plates once the inventory process is finished.

"Wala pa kasi, the inventory is yet to start. I'll announce the moment the inventory is done. We try our best as early as possible," Dy said.

He said that in Davao Region, there are 22,823 pending license plates for four-wheeled vehicles and 220,764 for motorcycles.

He lauded the Supreme Court for giving the green light for the distribution of the plates after they issued a halt order last June 2016 to delay the release of 300,000 license plates for four-wheeled vehicles and 400,000 license plates for motorcycles.

Dy said he has yet to receive the copy of the court decision.

"Siguro nakita na sa SC that there is no more legal impediment for the plates to be distributed to car owners," he said.

While waiting for the original plates, LTO-Davao allowed customized temporary license plate designed by vehicle owners as long as the vehicle is registered. They will not apprehend car owners with modified plates.
