Lim, Yebra, hijacker's brother, mediamen summoned in Senate probe (9:01 a.m.)

THE Senate will summon Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim in its investigation on the Monday's hostage-taking in front of the Quirino Grandstand in Manila that killed eight foreign nationals.

Senate Committee on Public Order and Illegal Drugs told Lim to explain his action as chairman of the Local Crisis Management Committee in handling the hostage drama.

Aside from Lim, the Senate will also invite Senior Police Officer 2 Gregorio Mendoza, the brother of the hostage-taker Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza, the hostage negotiator Orlando Yebra, and members of media organizations.

Senator Gregorio Honasan, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Illegal Drugs, said they will look into the roots of the failed negotiation and the reason why the slain hostage-taker shot the victims. (Sunnex)
