THE more than 45,000 senior citizens of Makati City became recipients of the P45 million mid-year cash gift from the city government.

“We hope to somehow provide relief to the beneficiaries especially since they are greatly affected by the rising costs of medicines,” Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay said.

He added that of the total amount for the mid-year bonus, P44,197,000 was released last June to the first batch of senior citizens while the distribution for the remaining P804,000 is ongoing for the second batch.

The city has allocated a total of P90 million to cover the cash gift for the entire year.

In a related development, Marjorie De Veyra, chief of the Makati Social Welfare Department, said that a total of 5,785 senior citizens have failed to claim their cash gift on the first scheduled distribution.

She added that the second batch has been given five working days starting last Monday until this Friday to claim their gift at the Cash Division, 3rd Floor of the new Makati City Hall.

Concerned senior citizens have been duly notified of the schedule through the barangays and their respective Senior Citizens Federation Heads, she added.(AH/Sunnex)
