A 46-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday afternoon for allegedly raping the wife of his nephew in Barangay Tagnucan, Borbon.

Police identified the suspect as Henry Montebon, a widower.

Montebon allegedly raped Mandy (real name withheld), 28, in a secluded area last Tuesday at past 7 p.m.

Before the incident, Mandy attended to his ill grandmother confined in a public hospital.

She later decided to rest at her house.

While walking alone in a dim area, the suspect suddenly dragged her toward a bushy portion in Tagnucan.

Mandy failed either to run or shout for help because the suspect pressed a knife on her body.

Montebon allegedly told the victim he would stab her to death if she make any noise.

The suspect undressed Mandy and raped her.

Mandy went home crying. She divulged the incident to her husband.

At past 10 a.m., the couple reported the crime to the Borbon Police Station-Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD).

PO2 Leah Balug, WCPD chief, said in a phone interview that they arrested Montebon inside his house.

The suspect did not resist. Balug said Montebon refused to answer her questions regarding the incident.

Balug said a complaint of violating Republic Act (RA) 8353, or the Anti-Rape Law, will be filed against the suspect before the Office of Cebu Provincial Prosecutor. Rape, according to RA 8353, is committed through force, threat or intimidation, when the victim is unconscious and deprived of reason.
