Mayor: Cases part of the job’s hazards

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is firm on his stand to get back the lots in the South Road Properties (SRP) that were sold by the previous administration to several developers.

Osmeña said the cases that Apas Barangay Captain Ramil Ayuman filed against him are just part of the hazards that he needs to face for being the city’s chief executive.

“This is just part of the hazards of the trade and it comes with the position. FLI (Filinvest Land Inc.) is willing to surrender. One down. People said it can’t be done. So there’s three more. My purpose is to bring them all down,” he told reporters in a news conference yesterday.

“I will hit them hard. Just give me few more weeks,” he added.

Last Friday, Ayuman filed a complaint against Osmeña before the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas for his threat to rescind the contract on the SRP sale.

Ayuman accused the mayor of violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, grave misconduct, conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service and conduct unbecoming of a government employee.

But Osmeña said that Ayuman just had nothing to do that’s why he keeps on filing cases. He said it is already the fourth case that was filed by Ayuman against him.

Ayuman said no one is behind his move against the mayor.

“I’m not used to that, mayor. I am contented with my small house,” the village chief said.

He also challenged Osmeña to release the P14-million fund from the City that was intended for the concreting of roads in Apas.

City Legal Office chief Joseph Bernaldez said they will answer Ayuman’s recent complaint once they receive a copy of it.

Even before he assumed office last July, Osmeña already said that he will get back the 45.2-hectare SRP lot that was sold by the administration of former mayor Michael Rama.

In 2015, the consortium of Ayala Land-Cebu Holdings Inc. and SM Prime Holdings Inc. bought a 26.3-hectare property in SRP while FLI bought 19.2 hectares. The properties cost P16.76 billion. (RVC)
