Mayor of Consolacion suspended for 90 days

CONSOLACION Mayor Teresa Alegado has been preventively suspended for 90 days by the Sandiganbayan 7th Division pending the decision of the unlawful appointment case filed against her.

Alegado received the suspension order on June 9.

Jerome Gonzales, Department of Interior and Local Government Cebu Provincial director, enforced the suspension order against Alegado.

Alegado’s son, Councilor Joannes Alegado, will assume as acting mayor since Vice Mayor Aurelio Damole is currently in the US.

Damole will take over once he returns from his trip.

Alegado was charged before the Sandiganbayan in 2011 for violating Article 244 of the Revised Penal Code for appointing Engr. Danilo Capangpangan as the town's general services officer.

The Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas found out that Alegado retained Capangpangan even though his appointment was invalidated by the Civil Service Commission.

Capangpangan failed to meet the educational and experience requirement for the position.

Atty. Christian Bacus, Alegado's lawyer, said they are waiting for the Sandiganbayan to decide on Alegado’s case.
