AN inmate of the Cebu City Jail who attended a hearing in Talisay City yesterday attempted to escape from the jail guards who accompanied him. He was arrested by local police.

Cresencio Nadera Jr., who is facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives, had just come from the sala of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 66 Judge Jacinto Fajardo in the Talisay City Palace of Justice when he and the jail guards decided to take a break for lunch in one of the carenderias outside the court.

Juvy Cabansag, a carenderia worker, told reporters that Nadera stripped off his orange prison garb and started running away from the jail guards after eating his lunch. Cabansag said the prison guards had slightly loosened Nadera’s handcuffs so he can eat properly. When they attempted to tighten it, Nadera immediately ran away.

Witnesses in the area saw one of the guards discharging his firearm to prevent Nadera from escaping, but that didn’t stop the man. Luckily, operatives of the Minglanilla Police Station who also attended a hearing caught Nadera.

Civilians in the area also assisted the jail guards. After jail guards placed Nadera back inside their vehicle, the other inmates started kicking him as they suspect that his antics could put them in trouble with the jail's management. (JKV)
