FOUR village officials of Minglanilla, Cebu surrendered on Thursday afternoon their unlicensed firearms as a gesture of support for police's campaign for a safe barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) or Youth Council elections in May 14.

Association of Barangay Councils President/Tulay Barangay Captain Joe Romulus Laput, Tunghaan Barangay Captain Sarah Alicaya, Poblacion Ward 1 Barangay Captain Crisanto Muaña and Tubod Barangay Councilor Gil Cañada Geonzon gave their guns to Chief Inspector Verniño Noserale, the town police commander on Thursday, April 12.

Noserale said he is expecting other barangay officials to follow the officials.

He encouraged Minglanillahons to surrender all loose firearms (registration is expired/unregistered/homemade or known as Danao-made) for the police to safe keep them and avoid unnecessary accidents that will lead to serious injuries or death and legal consequences.

The gun ban will start on Saturday, April 14, which is also the first day of election period. The ban will end on May 21. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
