A TOTAL of 3,627 correction of clerical error in birth certificates was recorded by the Davao City Civil Registration Office (CCRO) for the year 2016.

Orland Albairo from CCRO, during the I-Speak media forum Thursday, February 2, said the number increased from 3,114 recorded in the year 2015.

“Nagkadaghan ang atong correction tungod sa awareness programs na ginahatag nato (The number is increasing because of our awareness program),” he said.

He said among the advocacy programs include radio guestings.

Albairo said more and more people are now aware that they can actually have their birth certificates corrected through an administrative order and not a court order.

rHe added they are training medical personnel and midwives on proper entry of data in the registration form. Still, the number of those seeking correction is just a small percentage of the total who are registering new births.

Shirley Aredain, Birth Division in-charge, said they recorded 8,700 birth registrations for the month of January this year.

For 2016, they have recorded 44,020 birth registrations and 45,500 in 2015.
