THE Cebu City Government will push through with the cultural mapping of all potential heritage sites in the city.

Councilor Margarita Osmeña said that personnel from the City Historical and Affairs Office underwent a cultural mapping seminar conducted by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to conduct an inventory of all cultural and historical heritage sites in the city.

The councilor, who chairs the committee on tourism, said that the seminar was not limited to identifying the sites but also informed participants about the customs and traditions in the city.

She said that heritage-related projects will be pursued this year after receiving Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s approval.

Councilor Osmeña said that Cebu City is the first local government unit in the Visayas to receive training by NCCA on cultural mapping.

She also said that the National Museum of the Philippines is willing to spend to improve Fort San Pedro without collecting any payment from the City.

“They really want to go outside Manila. They have the funds for the improvement now and they have done it in other areas of the country and even Cebu Province but not in the city,” she said.

The councilor said that even if the national office will spend for the improvement, income earned by Fort San Pedro will still go to the City.

She said that they are discussing the project, adding that she hopes it will push through. (RVC)
