NCGP interconnection project aims to link Visayas and Mindanao

THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will link Visayas to Mindanao through an interconnection to be build by the government, said lawyer Cynthia D. Perez-Alabanza.

“What we want to do is complete the connection and link Visayas to Mindanao,” said Alabanza, spokesperson and head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs of NGCP.

She added that the Visayas and Mindanao interconnection project is one of the biggest projects that NGCP will undertake and will be critical to power supply stability and transmission supply stability because this will open the market for both areas.

Alabanza said the Visayas will have an option to buy power not just from in-grid sources in the region but it can continue to draw supply from Luzon or Mindanao.

Asked if this interconnection program will bring down the cost of power, she said: “It should, because we are widening the market, and there will be more competition.” (EOB)
