NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. appealed on Tuesday, June 6, to local government units, sugar planters groups, and private corporations to extend assistance to the evacuees of Marawi City affected by the clash between government troops and Maute bandits.

“Negros Occidental stands with our Marawi brothers and sisters. The provincial government is now accepting help and donations for our Marawi brethren,” the governor said in a press conference Monday, June 5.

Preferred food donations include halal food packs and bottled water, hygiene kits, batteries/power banks, flashlights/portable lamps, first aid kits, blankets, and sleeping mats.

Designated drop-off centers include the Provincial Capitol lobby, Provincial Administration Center lobby, and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.

Marañon said the Provincial Government is also eyeing a financial assistance of more than P1 million for Marawi because of the huge extent of damage to the area.

The Provincial Government was able to extend P1 million for the earthquake and flood victims in Negros Oriental and also P1 million for the earthquake victims in Bohol.

“Marawi needs our immediate assistance. I’m sure the towns and cities will also give their donations,” the governor added.
