LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- No gun ban violators were arrested in the Valley since the implementation of the nationwide policy ordered by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Newly installed La Trinidad Police Chief Freddie Montes Lazona said a general peace is being experienced in the region. "We are ok here; no one has violated the ban so far."
The ban is aimed at having an orderly and peaceful May elections.
Under Comelec Resolution 8714, carrying and transport of firearms, explosives and deadly weapons during the 150-day election period from January 10 to June 9 is strictly prohibited.
Only bona fide members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) wearing proper uniform and in performance of official duties are allowed to carry firearms.
"Only the police are carrying firearms here," Lazona said.
The police chief said checkpoints will be set up in the area as soon as street signages are finished.
"We might implement operation kapkap again," he said.
Lazona said the operation targets liquor establishments in the area to ensure no brawls will ensue after drunken sprees. (Ma. Elena Catajan)
