NSO seeks support on business survey

OFFICIALS of the National Statistics Office (NSO) are seeking the support of the private sector with the decision to conduct the Annual Survey of the Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) electronically.

NSO 7 officer-in-charge Ariel Florendo said the project aims to speed up the transmission of the data as well as to address the delay in collecting questionnaires from different establishments.

“The survey will now be done electronically. Survey questionnaires will be emailed to the respondents and submission will also be done through electronic mail,” said NSO statistical sampling and operating division chief Elsie Solidum in a press briefing Thursday at the Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center.

She said the new system will help address problems on the loss of survey questionnaires, an excuse NSO often receives from the respondents.

Florendo said they will also seek assistance from local chambers to encourage participation by establishments.

He said this would encourage more establishments especially those “uncooperative” in the government census.

Florendo said the survey is important as it gives up-to-date economic information that will be used by development planners, both from government and private sector, to make effective plans, policies and market strategies for businesses.
