Odd-even traffic scheme starts Monday

THE TRAFFIC reduction scheme on Trancoville and Aurora Hill jeepneys took effect Monday despite calls for further study before being implemented.

Traffic Management Branch head Engelbert Soriano said the odd-even scheme covering Aurora Hill and Trancoville jeepneys proceeded as scheduled and no definite date yet when it will end.

Soriano said the results of the experiment will be used as basis whether to continue or stop the reduction scheme.

The odd-even scheme imposed on Trancoville and Aurora Hill jeepneys is a result of the reduction scheme also recently implemented on La Trinidad jeepneys.

The two jeepney associations are blamed for the clogging of the business district streets. The Public Transport Affairs Office (PTAO) estimates a combined 1,700 units plying the city’s streets from both associations, everyday.

But PTAO head Perfecto Itliong Jr. and Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda earlier said the experiment should first be studied because it might affect those that do not operate express services. (Rimaliza Opiña)
