Open Letter: Apu Ceto’s statement

Sunnexdesk

Dear friends,

WE ARE emailing this statement to correct quotes in Sun.Star Pampanga (February 19, 2010) where Archbishop Paciano Aniceto purportedly exhorted Governor Eddie Panlilio to “respect the decision” of the Comelec second division declaring Lilia Pineda the winner in the 2007 election in Pampanga.

Herewith is the official statement of Apu Ceto on February 12:

“With the vigilance and combined efforts of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, civil society and non-government organizations who guarded the votes of candidates in the 2007 elections, I believe that the election results at that time were honest and credible.

I respect the decision of the Comelec but there are questions that arise in the minds of our people in the discrepancy of what the Comelec proclaimed in 2007 and in its present decision on the recount.

The governor was not in a financial or political position to cheat or buy votes since he had no funds or political machinery. I appeal to our people to follow due process in expressing their public sentiments on the result of the recount. Our people must maintain their dignity as peacemakers and disciples of the Gospel.”

“There is still a constitutional provision to appeal to the Comelec en banc and the Supreme Court for reconsideration.”
