THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) in Davao Region reported it has assisted at least 52 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who have been repatriated from their respective working place back in the Philippines.

Owwa-Davao Officer-in-Charge Carmelo Elaya said the administration has surpassed its 32 annual target to 52 OFWs who were assisted in coming home after they had been repatriated.

In a data obtained from Owwa-Davao, the office has assisted 13 males (12 land-based and one sea-based) and 39 females (33 land-based and six sea-based) on its transportation via airline from abroad back to their respective origin.

The office also reported 22 OFWs who have been provided with medical assistance, while five others went through psycho-social counseling after what they’d went through abroad before they returned to their respective homes in the region.

Some of the Filipino workers who returned to their country worked from Middle East, Elaya said, adding this was when they suffered from accident, or due to sickness, or unpaid/delayed salaries, and/or abused/maltreatment.

Elaya said the success of Owwa’s efforts could be attributed to the Philippine Embassy, Philippine Overseas Labor Office, and other concerned government agencies, and the cooperation of the families.
