P100-K at stake in ‘Araw’ motocross

A TOTAL of P100,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs in the 80th Araw ng Dabaw Cyclomax Motocross competition that will get going on March 18 and 19 at the Moto-X Farm, Barangay Langub, Davao City.

Race director Norben Mata Jr. bared this during Thursday's, February 9, Davao Sportswriters Association Forum at the NCCC Mall Food Cove function hall.

Mata said the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office will fund P70,000 for the event that is also backed by Phoenix Petroleum, Kurmat, Matsuko, Wheeltek, Kawasaki, Motortrade, Surestart, ETG, Norminring Motorbikes, Motolite, KTM, Pepsi, Rocky's Barbershop, Mac Cycle Mart, SF and the Dabaw City Sports Council.

Mata said he expects over 100 participants to join the annual competition where his son Norben Mata III will defend his novice and expert titles.

The Pantra Open, Pee Wee 50cc, Enduro Open, Peewee 65cc, Pantra-Davao Exclusive and Enduro-Davao Exclusive will be held on the first day while the second day will feature production bikes Beginnners Class, Intermediate Open, Super Mini, Expert Open, Novice Open, Executive Open, Novice Lites and Pro-Open events.

“We added two categories due to public demand,” Mata said, pertaining to Pantra-Davao Exclusive and Enduro-Davao Exclusive categories.
