Palace to continue firing ‘midnight appointees’ (4:09 p.m.)

MANILA -- Malacanang will not be hampered in firing supposed midnight appointees of the previous administration especially that no temporary restraining order is issued by the Supreme Court.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Wednesday that they will be firm in executing Executive Orders (EO) 2 and 3 to clear the administration of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III from people who do not support his advocacy.

“Let’s not forget the reason why there are midnight appointments in the first place. We cannot have all these midnight appointees who do not share the platform and the advocacy of the President,” Lacierda stressed.

The Supreme Court urged Malacanang to answer questions about the EO 2 recalling all midnight appointees of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and EO 3 revoking EO 883 giving automatic promotion of government lawyers to a career executive service officer (CESO) III rank.

Lacierda said that the Office of the Solicitor General is ready to defend the legality of the orders before the SC. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
